The BEI Med Ed STARS Presentation Series is a career advancement opportunity for trainees (residents and fellows) and early career faculty working on clinical education innovation projects and/or research to present their work to a community of clinical educators and receive focused counsel and feedback.
Project 1: Dispelling Neurophobia through Podcasting
Description: Neurophobia or “the fear of clinical neurology” is a well-studied phenomenon experienced by early medical trainees due to the complexity of neuroanatomy and lack of clinical exposure. To overcome the worsening shortage of neurologists, it is imperative to harness the early trainee interest and find ways to dispel neurophobia. The Neurophilia Podcast was created to help bridge the gap between practitioner and learner. Since launching, the Neurophilia Podcast has seen exponential growth in podcast listeners and social media engagement. We performed an extensive review of our podcast software (Buzzsprout) and the primary social media platform (Twitter) to determine our audience size, demographics, and level of engagement. Throughout the presentation, the successes and learning points of creating an educational podcast, and spend time discussing podcast-based learning as a whole will be shared.

Project 2: Fragility in Medical Education research
Led by: Affan Ali Aamir, MD, PharmD PGY-1 Resident Department of Anesthesiology, Critical Care, and Pain Medicine, MGH
Description: This project examines the concept of fragility in medical education research, exploring how easily statistically significant study findings may change if only a small number of participant outcomes were different. By applying measures such as the Fragility Index, the work highlights the stability and reliability of commonly reported results in medical education literature. The findings aim to encourage more thoughtful interpretation of statistical significance and strengthen the methodological rigor of future MedEd research.
