Join Dr. Sat Bir Singh Khalsa and the BEI for a virtual talk on "Yoga for Stress, Resilience, and Burnout in Healthcare Providers."

Overview -- Chronic stress is highly prevalent in modern society and is especially important in critical occupations such as healthcare where it can lead to burnout. However, our educational and medical systems are not effectively addressing this burden which can lead to mental health conditions such as anxiety, depression and insomnia. This lecture will provide an understanding of the scientific rationale and the underlying physiological and psychological mechanisms of traditional yoga practices that include physical exercises and postures, relaxation, breathing techniques and meditative/mindfulness practices in addressing stress, resilience and burnout. Published research on the efficacy of yoga for stress and burnout in healthcare workers will be reviewed.

Speaker Bio -- Sat Bir Singh Khalsa, Ph.D. is Director of Yoga Research for the Yoga Alliance and the Kundalini Research Institute, Research Associate at the Benson Henry Institute for Mind Body Medicine, Research Affiliate at the Osher Center for Integrative Medicine, and an Associate Professor of Medicine at Harvard Medical School at Brigham and Women’s Hospital.
